Jugend

Militant Body Rock; this is how the music of Jugend was christened by the Rotterdam music press. It is an apt description of the Equally catchy and daring musical mix that is Jugend.

Electric pounding offers a solid base for screeching guitars carried by militant commanding vocals. The end result is heart-warming bleak; raw Rotterdam rock that shuns neither cliché nor experiment. Driven by the compelling rhythm of cracking whip and stomping boot. A refined mix of metal, punk and tekno comes into being. The musical brawn of Jugend is complemented by provocative lyrics and a stage presence that is characterized by a predelection for propaganda, entartete kunst and carnal desire.

Bandmembers have different musical backgrounds, ranging from tekno to garage punk projects. However they share a love for cyclopedian beats and militant guitars. Jugend as a connoisseur of misdemeanor and bad taste, enjoys a loyal fan base.

In June 2008 this resulted in the first ZJugend demo called Nightstick; an instant avant garde hit.

Jugend currently consists of  Daryl Grootfaam, Toy Boy , Whipping Boy en Choir Boy and Tocado parted ways with them since we believed in the original line up of the band.

Jugend

Eind 1998 wordt het probeersel JUGEND bij elkaar geraapt om een uiteenlopend Rotterdams studentengezelschap te voorzien van felbegeerd muzikaal, theatraal en filosofisch onderricht. Band en publiek zijn beide gecharmeerd van het resultaat. Na vele incidentele optredens wordt JUGEND vanaf 2004 podiumwaardig als theatrale rockact. Ras, moraal, geloof; niets is veilig als JUGEND de bühne betreedt. Muziek, tekst en presentatie werken als een machine om ieder normbesef der aanwezigen te vervagen. Een dreunende baslijn gecombineerd met pompeuze beats geven zanger en gitarist de ruimte om te spuien en het broodnodige opruiende theater te doen.

Vanaf 2006 kent JUGEND een constante vaste bezetting met zanger, gitarist, bassist en (techno)percussionist. Drumtracks zijn vervangen door drumcomputer. Het speltempo gaat omhoog en de nummers worden veelzijdiger. De mix van punk en techno wordt aangevuld met machinalere metal en atmosferische wave-effecten; de concertenfrequentie stijgt. Het podium Exit biedt JUGEND frequent onderdak en daarvan wordt dankbaar geprofiteerd. Ook buiten Rotterdam wordt opgetreden en JUGEND is bekend in de scene.

In 2007 neemt de band een demo op, waarop de belangrijkste klassiekers te horen zijn. Vanaf 2008 wordt JUGEND aangevuld met een leadgitarist. Composities worden verder verdiept, verhard en verveelzijdigd. De shockerende kracht van teksten, presentatie en muziek blijft altijd het uitgangspunt.


Pony Pack 

With an endless list of influences from seventies punk, post-punk, new-wave, psychedelia and grunge, Pony Pack make music according to their own impulses. The outcome is catchy garage rock that's as dirty and satirical as it is sweet and sincere.

Hailing from the cosmopolitan city of Amsterdam, Pony Pack is a band with a diverse background; Jane from the Scottish capital of Edinburgh, Orang Goreng, an urban Amsterdammer with an Indonesian flavour and previous drummer (and founder member) Robert from the dark Bavaria of Germany.

Pony Pack was formed by Jane and Robert after a chance encounter in November 2005. Not long after, they recorded their first demo with Robert on drums and Jane on both bass and guitar. To develop their live sound they recruited Orang Goreng as guitarist in the autumn of 2006 and Pony Pack was truly born.

Since February 2007, Pony Pack has played in countless clubs, squats, parties and festivals in and around the Netherlands. In January 2008, they took to the road with The Suicidal Birds and Mexican Holiday for their first international tour.

Pony Pack released their debut album 'Claws & Fists' in September 2008 on Tocado Records. Not long thereafter, Robert left the band for personal reasons.

The current line-up is Jane Mack on bass and vocals, Orang Goreng on guitar and Nora Uitterlinden on drums.

PONY PACK
 
Pony Pack maakt muziek met invloeden uit seventies punkrock, post-punk, new wave, psychedelica en grunge. Het resultaat is catchy Garage rock die zowel smerig en satirisch als zoet en eerlijk klinkt.
 
Afkomstig uit de smeltkroes van de stad Amsterdam is Pony Pack als een trio ontstaan met Jane; een zangeres/bassiste uit Schotland, Robert; een Duitse drummer en Orang Goreng; een Nederlandse gitarist met indische roots.
Pony Pack werd na een toevallige ontmoeting in November 2005 opgericht door Jane en Robert. Kort na de oprichting nam dit tweetal een demo op met Robert op drums en Jane als zowel bassiste als gitariste en zangeres. Om live te kunnen spelen trokken ze in de herfst van 2006 Orang Goreng aan als gitarist en daarmee was Pony Pack echt geboren.
Kort na het verschijnen van de eerste Pony Pack CD besloot Robert wegens persoonlijke omstandigheden naar Duitsland terug te keren.
De huidige line up van Pony Pack bestaat uit Jane, Orang Goreng en Nora Uitterlinden op drums. Nora is ook bekend van bands als the Bend Moustache en Dusty Blinds
 
 
Pony Pack werd uitgeroepen tot Hollandse nieuwe door 3voor12
De debuut CD van Pony Pack genaamd Claws and Fists stond in de luisterpaal van 3voor12 en bereikte de eerste plaats in de hoogst gewaardeerden lijst.
Pony Pack deed samen met the Suicidal Birds een succesvolle tour door Duitsland, Zwiitserland en Frankrijk.

Lushus

The band Lushus has existed for three years in its current, powerful formation.  There are two charismatic female bass players and an energetic drummer, all of whom also sing.
Together they indulge and tease the listener with a mixture of jazz, punk
and nu-wave.

Before the band started playing in this outlandish line-up they recorded two albums with a more traditional line up of drums, bass and guitar, but when Merel joined the band after two guitarplayers and one bassplayer left Lushus, they decided to forget about the guitar all together and be a double bass band since things really clicked that way.
Their new album 'Red Blushes' is being published by Tocado Recordings, and
is sold in felt sleeves.
Lushus has been recording a vinyl single with Corno Swetsloot in April 2006.
This record includes two disco-punk tracks for your pleasure. The single was first released by Dying Giraffe records, but Tocado has taken over the promotion and distribution for the single.
In the 2007, Lushus will be gigging all around Europe to promote the
the single and have fun.  Lushus have recently played in Germany,
Denmark, Swiss, France the Netherlands and Belgium. In 2008 Lushus will tour
in Japan and Russia. They'll release some new tracks currently made over the
internet during 2007 and 2008.

LUSHUS

Lushus plaagt en verzadigd de luisteraar met een uiterst originele mix van Jazz, Punk en Nu-wave.

Lushus bestaat 3 jaar in de huidige formatie: Sascha Hacska (bas en zang), Merel Koning (bas-zang) Sascha), Jorg van der Plank (drums, zang).

Voordat de band als trio begon te werken bracht Lushus ook al twee cd’s uit in een meer traditionele line up van gitaar, bas en zang. Toen Merel de band kwam versterken na het vertrek van twee gitaristen en een bassiste besloot de band voorgoed met 2 bassistes verder te gaan en de gitaar te laten voor wat hij is.

Met deze onconventionele line up bracht de band in 2006 hun cd “Red Blushes”uit. De cd werd eerst door Dying Giraffe opgepikt en dit label bracht initieel ook de Big Fat Man single uit. Maar aangezien de band zich beter thuis bleek te voelen op het Rotterdamse Tocado label stapte Lushus in februari 2007 over naar Tocado-records, waarmee het label de promotie en distributie van de laatste twee releases overnam. Voorlopig komt er geen nieuw materiaal van Lushus uit aangezien de band voorlopig nog voldoende werk heeft aan de promotie van de Red Blushes cd en de Big Fat man single.

De Big Fat Man single werd geproduceerd door Corno Zwetsloot en opgenomen in de ‘next to Jaap’ studio in Voorhout.

In 2007 was Lushus overal op de Nederlandse podia te zien en werd er getourd in Duitsland, Zwitserland, Frankrijk en België.

In 2008 heeft Lushus in Rusland en door bijna geheel Europa getourd en werden er enkele nummers opgenomen speciaal voor verspreiding via het Internet.


 
 


Elle Bandita
Elle Bandita grew up as a local girl in the suburbs of Rotterdam/Holland.
She picked up the guitar at an early age and soon played the tiles of the roof; as the Dutch expression goes..
Elle started playing in bands at 13.
Her first band was called Coco Haely; a noise punkband.
At 16 she noticed an add where girls were asked for an all girl rock band. She auditioned and got the job. The band was initiated by Barry Hay of the Golden Earring and was called ‘Bad Candy’. Elle can’t really say she had a good time there. The band worked hard but for peanuts, they didn’t have any (artistic) control and generally Elle felt the hard fist of the industry penetrating where the sun doesn’t shine. Bad Candy never released an album and after two years Miss Bandita got out of the band.
After that she started playing guitar in the Riplets; one of the best known girl punkrock bands here in the country. Before her contract with Bad Candy was cancelled she wasn’t allowed to do this so...
At the same time Elle started playing solo and it didn’t take long before her outrageous performance got noticed and she soon played all over Holland.
Elle Bandita played with o.a. Harry Merry and Stöma. Both these acts allerted Tocado-Records saying this girl should be checked out. Tocado asked Elle Bandita to perform at their New Orleans benefit show. It took about 15 seconds for Tocado-records to decide they wanted Elle Bandita to join the familly. And so it was done!!
Elle Bandita released a six song EP on Tocado-Records on December 17 2005.
The EP is recorded by Nicky in ‘t Veld in his homestudio. It’s called Love Juice.
At the tender age of 20, Elle Bandita already played over 250 gigs!
A videoclip of the song ‘the game’ was made and reached the MTV-holland playlist.
Chicks on Speed records asked elle to do a song for their upcoming Girl Monster compilation.A split 7” picture disc featuring Elle Bandita and Chicks on Speed was released in 2007.                        Elle Bandita switched to PIAS records in 2008


Elle Bandita
Elle Bandita groeide op in Maassluis, een buitenwijk van Rotterdam.
Ze begon op de lagere school al met gitaarspelen en al snel speelde ze de pannen van het dak, om het maar op zijn Rotterdams te zeggen.
Op haar dertiende speelde ze al in haar eerste band genaamd Coco Haely (geen schrijffout!); een noise punkbandje.
Op haar zestiende zag ze een advertentie waarin meiden gevraagd werden voor een all girl rockband. Ze deed auditie en werd aangenomen. Deze band was een initiatief van Barry Hay van de Golden Earring en was genaamd ‘Bad Candy’. Achteraf kan Elle niet zeggen dat ze het erg naar haar zin heeft gehad bij deze band. Het was hard werken bij Bad Candy maar veel verdiende ze er niet mee. De band had absoluut geen enkele (artistieke) controle en Elle voelde zich op zijn zachtst gezegd behoorlijk beperkt in dit gezelschap. Bad Candy schopte het ook niet echt ver en tot haar grote opluchting nam Elle Bandita na twee jaar de kans waar om uit de band te stappen.
Daarna trad ze toe tot The Riplets, een stap die ze nog niet mocht zetten toen ze bij BC onder contract stond. Tegelijkertijd begon Elle Bandita solo op te treden en het duurde niet lang voordat ze op begon te vallen dankzij haar fantastische optredens en al snel speelde ze door heel het land.
Elle Bandita trad o.a. op met Harry Merry en Stöma. Beide Tocado bands waarschuwden hun label dat Elle Bandita een act was die ze eens moesten zien. Tocado-Records vroeg Elle Bandita op te treden tijdens hun benefietconcert voor New Orleans in Nighttown. Binnen ongeveer 15 seconden was het A&R team van Tocado overtuigd dat Elle Bandita een fantastische aanvulling voor de Tocado familie zou betekenen en vroegen haar of ze een contract wilde tekenen. Wat ze graag bleek te doen.
- Elle Bandita’s debuut CD ‘love juice’ werd op 17  december 2005 door Tocado-Records uitgebracht.
- Elle gaf een knallend optreden op Noorderslag 2006- wat nou gimmick?
- Chicks on Speed vroeg Elle een nummer voor de Girl Monster verzamel cd te leveren.
- Elle heeft op haar 20e al meer dan 300 optredens achter de rug.
- Love Juice stond bij verschillende platenzaken door het land in de top 10 van best verkochte cd’s.
- Elle is inmiddels bezig met de opnames voor haar eerste full length cd die via PIAS zal verschijnen

 
Can_Of_Be
can_of_be consists of 6 experienced musicians who just love strange music and weird tunes and 'suffer' from the obsession to weld that into their own songs. Main instruments used vary from and between electric guitars, cello, piano, glockenspiel, jewish harp, percussion, accordion, keyboard, electric bass, scrapmetal and a singing saw! The music that comes out is extremely divers... can_of_be searches for the perfect balance between caressing beauty and derailed madness; they explore the boundaries of dynamics, giving each song its own, sometimes cinematic sphere. This leads to a sweet lullaby suddenly being transformed into a theatrical gypsy theme, or a funky groove resulting in minimal music. Each song is played about with until it has its own organic feel in an effort to create an inescapable sound, in your face! This motley crew started out in 2002 as a collaboration between singer/songwriter Julie Scott (ex-Mizpah) and keyboardplayer Roeland Drost (ex-De Kift, ex-Fratsen). When they meet drummer Lesley Strik and guitarplayer Mark van Dijk in 2003 they find people who really understand their musical language. Jan-Willem Troost (Tango Orquesta Amago, ex-Ricciotti Ensemble) joins them on cello. After having worked with some bassplayers (of which Oscar Bor held the longest breath) at the end of 2005 Jaco van der Maarel made his entrance in can_of_be.

Can_Of_Be
Can_of_be is een Haagse band met een zeer eigenzinnig en onorthodox geluid die niets liever doen dan haar nummers met veel overtuiging de zaal in slingeren. Het effect is een bijna onontkoombare streling die dan weer wil liefhebben en dan weer wil beklemmen. De debuut CD ‘Schizo’ (2004) krijgt een enthousiast onthaal. Can_of_be is steeds weer op zoek naar de perfecte balans en dynamiek tussen aaibare schoonheid en ontspoorde gekte; muziek met een ‘twist’. Daardoor krijgt elk nummer een eigen, soms filmische sfeer mee en kan een groovende riff veranderen in een theatrale zigeunerklacht of een funky groove in een lief minimal music liedje. Het ongewone zit ‘m in het instrumentarium dat uiteenloopt van een turbulente cello en scheurende gitaar tot een harmonische accordeon en overscherende industrial-noise samples. Daar onder- en tussendoor komen een groovende bass, klokkenspel en mondharp voorbij.
Can-of-be ontstaat in 2002 uit de samenwerking tussen zangeres/gitariste Julie Scott (ex-Mizpah) en toetsenist Roeland Drost (ex-de Kift, ex-Fratsen). Als ze in mei 2003 drummer Lesley Strik en zanger/gitarist Mark van Dijk ontmoeten, beide tevens spelend in de band Grechko’s Doll, vinden ze mensen die hun muzikale taal spreken. Jan Willem Troost (Tango Orquesta Amago, ex-Ricciotti Ensemble) voegt vanaf september 2003 zijn cello geluid aan de band toe. Wanneer bassist Oscar Bor die de band na de opnames van 'Schizo' kwam versterken weer vertrekt, maakt Jaco van der Maarel de zesmansformatie compleet. Voorjaar 2006 verlaat Roeland Drost de band (tijdelijk?), omdat hij het met zijn werkzaamheden bij het Haagse Appeltheather niet langer kan combineren.
Op vrijdag 10 november 2006 werd de tweede cd van Can Of Be genaamd Don Quichot uitgebracht op Tocado-records.  De cd is geproduceerd door Henk Koorn (hallo Venray)


Killdaddies
The killdaddies were born at the end of 2003  thanks to four guys who wanted   to  play fast and minimal music, but always melodic, in a word: PUNKROCK.
The killdaddies’ line-up includes Claudio (Lead Voice), Giò (bass and Backing Vocals), Pelli (Fabulous Guitar) and Mauro (1-2-3-4! Drums). All the members boast of past experiences with other bands appreciated in Italy such as Los Activos, Le Lampadine and NerviTesi.
They feel a special admiration for American Pop Punk groups such as Screeching Weasel, Moral Cruz, Teen Idols, MTX, Riverdales and they also draw inspiration from the mythical figures of the genre: Misfits and Ramones.
The lyrics are about  topics common to everybody, for example women, the usual alcoholic weekends, or simply about people we  can’t stand  and that’s why each of us can feel involved into their music.
The KD are travelling all over Italy to make their punk rock known, entertain people and enjoy themselves. In June and August they will take their live performances to Northen Europe (Holland, Germany, Denmark, Belgium): CHECK IT OUT !
They are highly appreciated for their live performances and their deep dedication to the musical scene. They have just recorded a cd containing 10 tracks, a coproduction of the killdaddies, Tocado Records, Psycho Baby, Take Away Records and Benicetomommy.
We owe a special thank-you to all of them for their support and their help they gave us and will give us in the future!

LaGuerra
Laguerra (Eelco and Mario) started in the summer of 1998 under the name “Swat”. At that time they played three chord punk. They played a couple of shows but after a while some of the guys in the band wanted to mix this style with the metal, hip-hop and reggae they grew up on. So the drummer and guitarist left the band.
After a while they found a new drummer (Rene) and guitar player (Martijn). The band was now playing a mix of hardcore, punk and metal with a hip-hop flow. They recorded their first demo in September 2000. LaGuerra became third at the “Vers uit de Maas” contest that same year and played numerous gigs. A second guitar player (Rens) joined the band. Rene left the band because of musical differences and is now playing in the band “North”.
A new drummer (Andre) was found in September 2001. Martijn forgot his guitar too many times and decided to focus on vocals. Michiel came and took over the guitar.
After 6 months of writing and rehearsing new material the band came out mixing the aggression of hardcore and metal with the flow of hip-hop and reggae. They played two hundred shows in 2002. In the autumn of 2002 they released a face to face recording for promotional use only. Tocado-records signed the band early 2004. LaGuerra took a year off to focus on perfecting their sound and the recording of their first album which took place at the Excess studio throughout October/December 2004. The album is called “Revolution Theory” and is out now on Tocado-records


LaGuerra

LaGuerra onstond uit de overblijfselen van een punkbandje genaamd SWAT. Swat speelde veel optredens in de regio rond Rotterdam, maar al gauw bleek dat zanger Eelco en bassist Mario meer wilden dan simpele 3 accoorden punk; meer metal, reggea en hip hop invloeden waarop de drummer (P.J. – inmiddels actief in Keesus Krijst) en de gitarist de band verlieten en Mario en Eelco de naam van de band in LaGuerra veranderden.
Er werd een nieuwe drummer (Rene) en gitarist (Martijn) gevonden. De band werkte hard aan een eigen geluid waarin alle boven vermelde invloeden te horen waren. Een eerste demo verscheen in september 2000. Dat jaar werd de band ook derde bij de ‘vers uit de maas’ bandcontest in Waterfront.
Vlak daarop werd de band versterkt met een tweede gitarist (Rens).
Alles liep enkele maanden goed, en er werd veel opgetreden totdat drummer Rene naar North vertrok. (band met ex leden van the Crivits en Springrain). Andre nam z’n plaats over. Martijn gaf daarna aan liever als tweede zanger door te gaan en vanaf die tijd doed Eelco de ruige grunts en Martijn de meer melodieuse zang partijen. Michiel nam de tweede gitaar over.
Na 6 maanden repeteren verscheen LaGuerra in de lente van 2002 weer op de podia in de regio; de band werd intussen steeds populairder en kreeg een grote following. In september 2002 verscheen een tweede promo cd waarop de band zich ook buiten de regio begon te presenteren.
Begin 2003 pikte Tocado-records de band op en begon een lange periode waarin de sound van de band geperfectioneerd werd als voorbereiding op CD opnames.
In de zomer van 2004 speelde LaGuerra o.a. op het metroplis festival in Rotterdam.
De eerste cd genaamd ‘revolution theory’ werd uiteindelijk in de herfst van 2004 opgenomen in de Excess studio te Rotterdam en op 13 Januari 2005 gepresenteert in een volgeladen Waterfront.
LaGuerra onderscheid zich van alle andere metalcore bands door een harde sound te combineren met veel melodie, een positieve spirituele houding en teksten die bolstaan van unity, plezier en verzet tegen de gevestigde orde!!


 
All For Nothing
All For Nothing is a Rotterdam based band with four members, who will not be labelled easily. Their inspiration mainly comes from hardcore and punkrock. Their debut album Start At Zero was released in July 2004 and consists of eight songs, alternating between up-tempo punkrock and finger-breaking hardcore riffs, all drenched in melody and sarcasm. It all started during the autumn of 2001. After the break-up of their former band Fitch, Ernst and Richard decided to form a new band. They wanted to compose new songs, do some shows and above all have a lot of fun.
The members of All For Nothing grew up together in a suburb of Rotterdam but they all have different musical backgrounds. They try to combine these different influences in order to create unique and high-quality songs.
You will find hardcore and punkrock influences in their music. Their goal is to find a balance between these two styles to attract a wider range of public.
Their long-awaited debut album Start At Zero was finally released in July 2004 at Nighttown (Rotterdam). It was recorded and produced by Patrick DeLabie at studio 195 in Wernhout.
The band is proud to say that Start At Zero is well received by the press. Start At Zero is described as fresh, melodious and (although there’s always room for improvement) as a good beginning.
In a short time All For Nothing has put up a lot of shows, in their homeland as well as abroad. This band intends to keep on going for quite some time and it plans to make many venues shake in their foundations along their way!

All For Nothing
All For Nothing, een band die niet in een hokje te plaatsen is. Ze zijn geïnspireerd door zowel hardcore als punkrock. Hun debuutalbum “Start At Zero” is net uitgebracht en  bedraagt acht up-tempo Punkrock nummers, welke worden afgewisseld door vingerbrekende Hardcore riffs, welke op hun beurt weer zijn gedrenkt in melodie en sarcasme. Dit energieke album is vanaf vandaag verkrijgbaar en zal menig stereo laten exploderen! Het begon allemaal in de herfst van 2001, toen Ernst en Richard achterbleven nadat hun voormalige punkrockband Fitch uit elkaar ging. Ze besloten een nieuwe band te vormen met twee goede vrienden. Met deze band wilden ze nieuwe nummers componeren, optreden en  bovendien veel lol hebben.  Ernst, Normen, Richard en Marcel groeiden samen op in de buitenwijken van Rotterdam en hebben allemaal verschillende (muzikale) achtergronden. Ze proberen deze invloeden te combineren om sterke composities te schrijven.   Begin 2002 begonnen ze wekelijks te jammen en te oefenen. Naar enige maanden besloot Richard te band te verlaten. De overige leden gingen samen door en zochten naar een waardige vervanger. Toen ontmoeten ze Leon, die voorheen drummer was van de skacore band CPR. Nadat besloten was dat Leon had waar ze naar zochten mocht hij bij de band komen spelen.  Met een nieuwe kijk op muziek bleven ze nieuw materiaal schrijven, maar na een paar maanden besloot Leon – net als Richard- de band te verlaten, omdat hij zijn draai niet kon vinden. De zoektocht naar een nieuwe drummer ging verder.  In het begin van 2003 lachte het geluk hen weer toe: Richard was bereid terug te komen en ze pakten de draad weer op. All For Nothing begon direct te werken aan hun langverwachte debuutalbum. Ze hebben veel tijd gestopt in het perfectioneren van de nummers tot in detail. Ondertussen speelde het viertal hun eerste show in een verlaten treinloods in Amersfoort. Hun debuutalbum “Start At Zero” werd uiteindelijk in de winter van 2003 geproduceerd en opgenomen door Partick DeLabie in studio 195. 
All For Nothing werd later uitgebreid met een lead zangers genaamd Cindy en heeft nog verschillende veranderingen in de bandsamenstelling gehad. Inmiddels zijn ze getekent door het Duitse Swellcreek records.

The Rosevalley Punkrockers
“We are a motherfucking awful band, what we are doing no one seems to understand. It’s all fake what we bring to you that’s what the Rosevalley Punkrockers do. Every bit of music belongs to someone else. We mix it and record it, make sure that it will sell.” [first verse of “It’s true”]
The ROSEVALLEY PUNKROCKERS were originated from Buttscratcher 2000, a punkrock band from Roosendaal , Holland. But after some members left the band there were only 3 left. They went along with playing music and changed the name and style.

They made the music a litlle less hard and loud, but still rough, with lots of humor and strong rythms. PVC and ROGER STUFF have been playing together for a long time and a few years ago DAKKUS joined them and it really kicked ass. IT STILL DOES! Now we made our first c.d. with 17 tracks on it.
Title of the cd is R&B=KUTMUZIEK what actually means: R&B=cuntmusic. That is what we think of the music nowadays and also the poppy punk of today. THAT SUCKS BIGTIME! We want the old times back, good music and anarchy.


The Rosevalley Punkrockers
 Een collega van mijn vriendin ziet dit plaatje op tafel liggen en is geschokt: 'Maar ik vind R&B heel mooi, zoiets doe je toch niet?' 1-0 voor de Rosevalleys!! De muziek: onvervalste tachtiger jaren bierpunk over asswipe, Axl Rose, Duitsers en natuurlijk bier. Uiteraard opgenomen in de legendarische Studio 195 - het lijkt wel of er nog maar één studio in Nederland is! - knallen de one-liners je een half uur lang de vellen van je trommelvliezen. Catchy en gevat, en op een verbazend hoog muzikaal niveau. Het hoesje bevat alle teksten en laat aan de hand van foto's zien waar de bandleden in geïnteresseerd zijn. Overbodige informatie als webadressen en telefoonnummers zijn volkomen terecht achterwege gelaten. Wie ze wil boeken moet denk ik ergens in het westen van Brabant maar eens een paar keer de titel van deze cd over straat laten schallen, dan gaat er vast wel ergens een lampje branden!

THE PAUKI
THE PAUKI were organized in the year of 1991 and the first place for rehearsals was in House of Culture "NEVA". That was a place where Alexander Tankovich (vocals) and Andrew Masloff (guitar) worked. In a short time they were joined by Alexander "Malish" Yakovlev (bass) and Andrew "Merzik" Fomin (drums) and also by Vladimir "Prosha" Prohorov (screams, messing around and almost contrabass). The name of the style Prohabilly originally comes from Prosha. That guy was worth of special attention. He would come only when he felt like to, the same with going away. He was absolutely independent. By that time practically no one of them could play his instrument fairly well, that's why they've decided to start with good old traditional rock'n'roll.
Correspondent- Now, guys, can you recollect which bands or singers influenced our music?
Alexander Tankovich- In the middle 80th I've been listening mostly to heavy-metal, such bands as Metallica, Accept, Running Wild, Grave Digger, Motorhead, AC/DC and some more. But after I'd finished the obligatory service in the army force all this stopped at once. I started to improve my music taste and began listening to such bands as Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys, Exploited, Meteors, Pixies, Batmobile, Cramps, Einsturzende Neubauten , N.I.N., Ministry, Pogues, Nick Cave and a lot of others. It's just became possible in Russia to find their records freely.
The very first rehearsal turned into a mini-concert and was finished with the big alcohol party. They played some home-made things which are still played on the concerts: That World, Give me a candle!, An Old Castle, I'm a pirate and some more. It was a big luck that the work manager didn't notice anything in the morning- guys managed to clean up everything before the boss came. Things were hard with the instruments at the beginning, some of them were found at the club's basement so at first they managed to play on what they had. But sure enough all this hardships didn't let guys down and in no way did it influenced the great spirit of holiday and music chaos. Once guys got an offer to play on a party in their native town Metallostroy. That was their first serious concert. It turned out to be very successful and later on they gave a row of concerts in the local House of Culture. But unfortunately, the administration didn't like the funny mess created by the public during the concert and the concerts were cut. The same year they recorded their first album on the attic of Merzik's house, it's called The celebration in the asylum and was later re-recorded in Antrop-studios and issued in 1998. The same happened with the next album Arachnophobia.
Corr.-Please, tell us about the style Prohabilly?
Alexander Tankovich- The style is called by the name of our old pal Vladimir "Prosha" Prohorov. He influenced me a lot in the early 90th , he was pretty much in charge of creating the style of the music we play. All the time he was bringing me the records of some foreign bands that I didn't know but which were very interesting to me. He was the one who introduced to me such music style as Psycho, such bands as Einsturzende Neubauten, Nick Cave and else. Sometimes Prosha consumed alcohol and that was something crazy. At this moments everything would fly out of the window - tapes, recorders, sofas. He could easily get naked on the street and start to yell out loud and not only this kind of stuff. Respecting the peculiarities of his behavior we in turn immediately decided to call our music style Prohabilly!!! To our great sorrow Prosha has left this world already, but the style called by his name lives.
Approximately a year later a friend told to the guys that there is a place in Saint-Petersburg where they could play and would even be given a box of beer (and it's 20 bottles). That was a SHOCK! It was just too good to be true. But anyway, there was such a place and it was called the TaMtAm-club. It took them about half a year to persuade the club-manager Seva Gakkel to let them play there. And finely on September the first out-of-home concert of THE PAUKI was held. They were in one concert with such TaMtAm monsters as Messer fur Frau Muller (that time still in a brutal project ) and unknown then Barabasi (later known as Hooligans, Skazi Lesa (Tales of the Forest) and Nord Folks) and Markscheider Kunst. The concert was very successful and Seva Gakkel gave to THE PAUKI an additional box of beer and offered them to play in this club at any time they would like to. That's how the concert activity of the band started.
Corr.- What are your songs about and what message do you bring to your audience?
Alexander Tankovich- I feel myself as a teacher of history in a way. My lyrics are based on fantasy-literature, pirate stories, Viking's quests and by all means true life tales. And all this is pretty much soaked with the alcoholic drink BEER! People on our concerts drink beer and get rid of all the negative energy and we are glad to help them with it. Our music is a mix of very different styles: Punk, Folk, Grange and of course Rock N Roll. The mix is somewhat explosive.
Not everything was so easy and after some time Merzik left the band. His place was taken by Max Mokhov, who played before in the band Panica. Malish soon followed Merzik, Alexander "Valinich" Valaev took his place. Then Max was taken to the army, THE PAUKI needed a new drummer and they found Slava Ivanov, who previously played in Vtoroe Dikhanie (The Second Breath) and in a bunch of other projects. With this crew THE PAUKI recorded their first official album Flag na Rei (Flag on the Yard) (1996). After recording sessions were finished Valinich has left the band and Max came back from the army and started playing bass guitar. Four following albums were recorded with this finally settled crew. After recording of the album Dikie Plyaski Doklih Sobak (The Wild Dances of the Dead Dogs) the band gained one more guitar-player Sergey "Sniper" Ivanovsky, for the more advanced guitar sound.
Before the year 2001 the following people played in THE PAUKI:

...And then the year 2002 came. The morale of the members of the band got worse; divergences about the style of THE PAUKI emerged. But the time went on and it was impossible to stop.ovsky, for the more advanced guitar sound.
The songs for the new album were written, they needed only to be rehearsed and recorded. For the recording session musicians from the bands MARRADERS & LAGUNA VANDAL were invited.
After several rehearsals musicians went on to DOBROLET studio, where with the help of experienced sound-producer Andrew Alakrinsky & members of the band TEQUILAJAZZZ. In the very short time new album THROUGH was recorded. The album was released on CDs and MCs & fans of THE PAUKI liked it a lot.

The shit happening all over the world couldn't but influence the lyrics of last album. There appeared anti politics, anti war and social topics, though the old-school pirate & beer themes were impossible to be avoided.
The album was noticed not only in Russia but also abroad. It was commended by several punk-zines, including the most famous American fanzine MAXIMUM ROCK'N'ROLL. Several songs were included in compilations in England, America, Peru, Greece, Italy - and this list will probably grow.
…Now the material for the next album is being prepared and who knows, may be already in the year 2003 we'll see the next step of the legendary band…

Hooftpijn
Good served with a Cup of T.
Ingredients:
4 Male Musicians* (Mike, Stefan, Kevin and Bob)
1 Guitar
1 Bass
1 pair of Drumsticks and a Drum set
Some Lyrics (Dutch and English)
Some Spices (anything from Dickies to Dead Kennedys)
Preparations:
Take the Musicians out of the package and throw them into a big pan - make sure there is enough room left in the pan for all the other ingredients to fit in- and roughly mix them together.
Take the Bass, the Guitar and the Drum Set, peel off the zest and add it to the musicians. This will have a positive affect on the musical outcome.
Wash the drumsticks and place them in the microwave for about five minutes (high level). This will give the sticks that mahogany look and the taste of sweet sugared popcorn.
Cooking:
Place the pan with the musicians and zest on the stove and heat them up just a little bit. Make sure not to boil them yet. While the musicians are getting warm, sprinkle evenly with sliced lyrics. Stir it just a little bit.
Next you throw in what is left of the Bass, the Guitar and the Drum Set and bring it to boil. Add Some Spices to it. Dickies will do fine, just as well as some Dead Kennedys, perhaps a tad of that good old Rock and Roll music, maybe a pinch of ska but make sure you do not overdo it.
Serve this with the Drum Sticks and a nice cup of T.

De FEITEN
Anno 2000 G.T. is HooFTPijN opgericht door algemeen directeur Stefan R. Hij is van meet af aan de drijvende kracht achter HooFTPijN en zal dat nog jaren blijven. Er zijn in de tussentijd enkele bestuursleden gekomen en gegaan, maar het huidige bestuur, dat al sinds 2004 in deze samenstelling functioneert, is vastberaden te blijven en actie te voeren waar dat kan.
De naam HooFTPijN is duidelijk een verwijzing naar de muziek zoals genoemd onder het kopje ‘het waarom’. De naam van de partij moest pakkend zijn en tegelijkertijd symbool staan voor hun ideeën. Welnu, deze naam geeft duidelijk aan waar de hedendaagse muziek en maatschappij toe zal leiden.
De partij wordt meestal vergeleken met groeperingen als De Heideroosjes, Rancid en Dead Kennedies. Stijlen als ska, ska-punk, punk en rock ‘n’ roll zijn een vast onderdeel van de vergaderlijsten en zorgen voor een actieve betrokkenheid van alle aanwezigen. Recente momenten van glorie waren onder andere het winnen van Rockslag Gorinchem en een optreden op Wantijpop. Verder heeft de band zalen aangedaan als Waterfront, Nighttown, Tivoli, de Kade, Perron 55, Bibelot, cafe Paard van Troje en vele andere.

DISTURBANCE
In the mid-nineties, four blokes decided to form a band under the smogveil of Rotterdam, Punk capitaL of Holland. They played their Punk the old fashioned way, with a lot of spitting and cursing at anything that society thinks is allright, which it's not.
They did a lot of gigs in the Rotterdam area and trough the years they expanded their territory troughout the Netherlands, playing With bands like Special Duties, SicK On the Bus and Funeral Dress. Then, somewhere back in ’98, the unfortunate (and probably rainy)day came the drummer left the band, trading in the good old No Future Punk of Disturbance for a pschyco billy band as a secondhand wankmag.
Disturbance wasn’t planning to give up, and sought out a new drummer. The drummer they found originated, as up to this day, from the Cenobites, another pschycobilly band from the muddy, beer drenched soil of the dutch underground scene.
Eventually, after a lot of effort, energy, beer and a couple of months in the cellars of paid practica, Disturbanca was back in the sadle, not minding the sting of spikebelts in their arse.
Now Rob (Vocals), Dim (guitar), joz (Bass) and Kiel (drums), are hitting the stage again with their songs any drunk punk (Or at least most of them) can shout along, proceeding with their Own way of making Punk. Loud, Proud and Without doubt.
Their first single is called 'live on to decline' and is released on Tocado-records. The first issue of the single is already sold out. The second issue appears on darkbrown vinyl instead of the white vinyl of the first pressing.
After the single Disturbance was picked up by a German streetpunk label. They released a full length album called 'Malice in Slumberland' which was well received. Later on they toured China and eleased the Shades Of Fear album ion Dirty Punx before the band suddenly collapsed in 2008.

Totaal Verlept
Totaal Verlept was without doubt the first hardcore band in Holland. TV was founded 1980(!) when a punk-rocker called Jeroen started ordering and collecting LP’s from the USA. Jeroen was one of the first in Holland who liked the American style of punk-rock called Hardcore and many of his friends soon followed. It was destiny that a hardcore style band would emerge in this small group of friends. Jeroen started as the drummer but gave up his place behind the drum kit and took on the guitar when he found out ET (REVO, KOTX, DEBIELE EENHEID) was as eager as can be to become the drummer. Totaal Verlept was the only band around with good enough musicians to play as fast as Hardcore required, and he desperately wanted in!
ET also was a freak for Hardcore. His friends noticed how he spent his whole unemployment benefit at the record store every week, eating potato chips only the rest of the time, or Off course at his friends’ place!Opa was assigned to the microphone and a lot of bass players came and went until Klaas took over the guitar and Jeroen again switched instruments to the bass-guitar. Which was No problem at all for him.
The fact Totaal Verlept made an American form of punk, which was too fast for most heroin using looser punks back in the days, didn’t attribute to any popularity. When some members started shaving their heads like their heroes Minor Threat the confusion was complete; they looked like skinheads!But ET and Jeroen were much respected in their own scene and cracked the prejudice; soon a Hardcore scene emerged in the north of Rotterdam. (the south side remained territory of the older scene).Totaal Verlept has evolved from ultra fast ‘blow it out yer ass’ thrash core to a more subtle and structured sound. But it was still hardcore, still fast and still tight!Success never came their way, but the band kept it together because they still found enormous joy in playing and performing. But since punk-rock’s big revival a lot of young punks got into Totaal Verlept, revitalizing them and their long time fans. Years of experience now paid off, also the fact TV doesn’t play modern metal influenced Hardcore but a much more playful and humorous variety of punk core was a big advantage with attracting a new audience.
Totaal Verlept was asked to join the line-up at the first ‘Heel erg punk festival’ in 1997 and ever since Tocado-records kept its contact with the band.When Totaal Verlept started recording an album Tocado records signed them. TV recorded seven songs at the Excess studio and another nine were recorded live in ‘De Vlerk’ a legendary local club. (Now relocated and renamed ‘Waterfront). Tocado first released a single called ‘effe bier hale’ (let’s go get some beer) in the spring of 2000. The single was well received and soon sold out.After the success of the single Tocado-records released “Totaal Verlept = Totally wasted in Oktober 2000. The album got great reviews around the world and Totaal Verlept played a lot throughout Holland and beyond. Untill tragedy struck: ET was hit by a car while on his bike and suffered a severe skull fracture. We waited six month for him to recover, but in the end it looked like ET wouldn’t play again and Totaal Verlept started rehearsing with a new drummer called Jeoffrey. Jeoffrey now is the Benjamin of the band with his 20 years, but has also gave the band and extra kick in the ass. Ever since he joined the band a new wave of creativity went through the band resulting in scores of new songs. Totaal Verlept visited the Excess studio again late 2002 and recorded 6 new songs which where planned to be released as an MCD called Mr.Baboon in september 2003. The band kicked the bucket before that happened after a tour through Australia was cancvelled by their singer at the last moment. The band didn’t survive the argument that followed.

Die Nakse Bananen
"Die Nakse Bananen originally hail from Venray, Limburg in the south of Holland. Venray is a shitty little town which at the time was home to only four punk-rockers: just enough for a band. The Venray punkscene started to grow under the influence of Die Bananen and it became almost a tradition to start playing in Die Nakse Bananen when kids became punk-rockers. Die Nakse Bananen were always in need of new musicians due to countless line-up changes.
Founder and drummer Deef moved to Rotterdam in 1994 taking the band name with him. In Rotterdam he found new musicians to reform the band, the first was singer Sid who became the undisputed face of the group.
It took two demo tapes, eighty gigs and four changes in personnel for Die Nakse Bananen to emerge with a stable line-up:

“De nieuwe bezetting” (new line-up) was the title of the legendary demo which was truly a new beginning. The band was tighter then ever before, fans started following them everywhere, craving a more real and honest punk-sound then any Epitaph band could offer.
Tocado-records also took notice and asked D.N.B. to participate with the second ‘Heel erg punk’ festival and compilation album.
Shortly after that D.N.B. recorded their first album in the legendary studio called ‘Joke’s koeien verhuurbedrijf’ (the Ex, no means no).
Tocado wasted no time and signed Die Nakse Bananen immediately.
Bummer ’99, D.N.B.’s first album was released on Sept. 9 1999 in a sold out local club called ‘De Vlerk’. D.N.B. fans from all around the country made up for a record breaking crowd in de Vlerk. Bummer ’99 has received good reviews only ( and a lot of them!)
D.N.B. decided to release their second album called 'untitled' on their own without cooperation with Tocado-Records, so we parted our ways..

No-Men
No-Men was founded in the summer of 1996 by singer No Leen.
After playing metal-core for eight years in locally well known bands like ‘Rotterdam Pig Fuckers’ and ‘Into the Void’ No Leen wanted to return to the roots of punk and hardcore, without the metal influences.
The first line-up of No-Men consisted of long time buddy Jodokus (drummer in R.P.F.) , local punk legend Mario Stror (ex Debiele Eenheid) on bass and El Jeffe on guitar .
This line -up made No-Men’s first demo two months later in September 1996, and played a lot of gigs in Rotterdam and beyond.
However Jodokus left the band pretty soon because he was forced to choose between No-Men and another band called ‘positive stroke’.
Okkie replaced Jodokus, and we immediately did a new demo called ‘Murk deal’ and all No-Men became involved in organizing the first ‘heel erg punk’ festival and compilation album.
After the Heel erg punk experience we decided to record a full length album with the money we made touring.
We recorded the non sapiens, non sense album in three days at Studio 195 in Wernhout (known for work with the Travoltas and Betty Ford clinic) .
We also paid for our own production, since we run Tocado records ourselves.
The release party was a good success and we got good reviews for our album, but Mario Stror decided to Quit the first time we practiced after the party. Let’s say for political reasons; do things his way or bust!
Soon after Okkie left the band, because he didn't feel comfortable with the band no more.
This way the band lingered for a long time. No Leen was too busy with Tocado-records to really start things up again, loads of bass players and drummers were tested and either failed or weren’t interested in the job after all ;the future looked bleak for No-Men.
Until Positive Stroke broke up and Jodokus rejoined No-Men. El Jeffe had started another band in the meantime (buttscratcher 2000) from which we extracted a new Bass-player ; “Dakkus”. In this line up we survived a few months but lack of commitment from all members caused another break-up.
No Leen started to play with Gareth-guitar (ex Deuce, now with Springrain ), Diederik drums(Puz), Kevin-bass (Apers). Together they started Stiff Little Kennedys; a band that played covers for fun at Tocado festivals and Release parties. Later on Jerry (Apers, Ragin' Hormones) joined us. After a while we were talking about restarting No-Men in the Stiff Little Kennnedys line up since things really worked well in this line up. All musicians on board play like they sold their soul to the devil and have lots of expierence and commitment. We started rehearsing one song for the best of Heel erg Punk CD and recorded it at the Excess studio.
Soon after we decided that, although playing with Jerry and Kevin was very nice and we like them a lot, the tourschedule of the Apers wouldn't leave enough space for No-Men to coexist. So we asked Mario from La Guera and Hans from de Sociale Werkplaats and Blind Justice to join us.
And at last things started moving again. No-Men played a couple of gigs to get the hang of it again and after that we made scores of new songs.

No-Men
Nog maar net van hun laatste demo bekomen en daar gaan we weer. De oldschool punkers van No-Men ditmaal met hun eerste ceedeetje. Divers, opzwepend, brutaal en punker dan jij! Maar liefst twintig nummers en ruim drie kwartier en dan nog lig je na het laatste nummer huilend op de grond te schreeuwen om meer. De teksten zijn soms kritisch, soms grappig en soms zelf Nederlands zoals in "Ik was een punk voordat jij was een punk". (A la The Tubes) No-Men is cool en Tocado ook, dus je kan voor een heel schappelijk prijsje deze cd op de kop tikken bij Black Widow ofzo en dat ga je dus ook doen! (MN) sterker door strijd fanzine.


DEUCE
Deuce ceased to exist. Former members went on to play in bands like Springrain, Craven, The White Suicide, The Death Of Me and Cyclone.
Deuce started back in 1996 with Richard on bass, Lucky on drums and Gareth on guitar and vocals.
Their first demo caught the attention of THC's outgaanscourant, (the fanzine we all worked for at the time).
After the first demo Deuce added an additional guitar player called Ilya. From then on more metal appeared in their sound that became a nice mix of metalcore and melodic punkrock never heard since in this scene.
Deuce rapidly became the hottest act around in Rotterdam, so we asked them for the first Heel erg punk festival. After the festival Deuce recorded 'the organisation' and we decided to sign them. They were the first band to sign with us. we were actually still learning all the ropes in the music bussiness, so our promotion was not up to the level it is in currently. Deuce undoubtedly suffered from that, allthough we managed to get a distribution deal for them at de Konkurent and made them a nice video clip.
Late 1997 Deuce fell apart after a disasterous gig which ended in them being smashed off the stage by cops.

 
Deuce
Deuce bestaat niet meer; de band viel in 1997 al uit elkaar. Ex leden van Deuce gingen later in o.a. Springrain, Craven, The White Suicide, The Death Of Me en Cyclone spelen. Zanger/gitarist Gareth is tegenwoordig programmeur in Waterfront te Rotterdam.
Deuce werd in 1996 opgericht met Richard op bass, Lucky op drums and Gareth als zanger/gitarist. De eerste demno van Deuce kreeg lovende kritieken in THC's outgaanscourant; het blaadje van de St. Tocado in die tijd. Na de eerste demo kwam Ilya de band versterken als tweede gitarist en werd er meer metal aan de punksound van Deuce toegevoegd, aldus onstond een geluid dat het midden hield tussen punk, hardcore en metal dat we later nooit meer gëevenaard hebben gezien. Deuce groeide al snel uit tot een van de populaiste bands in de Rotterdamse scene. Tocado vroeg de band mee te doen aan het eerste Heel Erg Punk festival. Na het festival nam Deuce hun cd 'the organisation'op en tekenden ze bij Tocado-records. Tocado stond in die tijd nog in de kinderschoenen en er moest nog veel geleerd worden over het op een goede manier promoten van een band. Deuce heeft daar waarschijnlijk onder geleden. Niettemin wisten we een distributiedeal bij de Konkurent voor ze te regelen en maakten we en mooie, maar helaas inmiddels verdwenen video clip voor ze. Deuce viel uit elkaar na een desastreus optreden op een festival in Delft dat eindigde met een politiecharge op het podium.
